The spectacular glasshouse at the Botanic Gardens Wales makes this a brilliant all weather day out. Full of beautiful plants even in the depths of winter this is an easy way to entertain young and old.
Beyond the glasshouse there is also the butterfly and orchid house, nature reserve, walled garden and acres to explore. There are cafes around the site and there is nearly always something happening.
At Dolaicothi Gold Mines you can pan for gold in the streams, check out and play with buttons in old mining machinery sheds, learn about how the Romans used to look for gold here or just walk through the lovely valley.
Beautiful walking country all around this site as well as the National Trust’s farms which you can walk around. There is a pub, also owned by the National Trust, it does food and good ale.
The interesting Newton House and Dinefwr Estate is managed by the National Trust, it is next to the Wildlife Trust nature reserve Dinefwr Castle Woods.
Just on the edge of the pretty market town of Llandeilo which is full of independent shops, restaurants and cafes.
Owned by the local Wildlife Trust, Dinefwr castle is spectacular, with views up the valley towards Paxton’s Tower, which is also worth a visit.
There is an accessible car park up near the castle which enables people with wheelchairs to get up close.
